Inspect, Identify, and Correct: Steps to Insect Control for Trees
Your SavATree arborist will design a customized and multi-pronged treatment plan targeted to the tree species, the specific pest, and the site conditions.
Identify, Treat, and Prevent the Specific Pest
Your SavATree arborist will perform a visual inspection of the foliage, branches, and trunk of the symptomatic tree for evidence of infestation. If detected, they will recommend the regimen of control and prevention measures most appropriate for the specific insect and the tree species. That may include application of technical materials, and/or strategic pruning, to treat or remove the pest. Your arborist may also recommend fertilization or soil amendments to improve growing conditions and increase the overall health of the tree, which will allow it to recover more quickly from damage and better defend itself from future attacks.
Some common pests include emerald ash borer, spotted lanternfly, webworm caterpillars, sawflies, spider mites, Japanese beetles and many more.
Assess and Improve the Site Conditions
Since poor site conditions may cause a tree to become vulnerable to insect infestation, your arborist may make recommendations to improve the site conditions before beginning insect treatments. For example, pruning the affected tree (and any trees and shrubs that may be crowding it) can improve sunlight penetration and air flow, and increase the efficacy of treatments.
